Marlene D. Swanson

Age 78, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota passed away on Monday, May 15th, 2017. Marlene was born in Mankato, Minnesota on September 18th, 1938 to Dolores and Martin Sigvaldson. She had three younger sisters; Sandy, Geda and Susan. Marlene lived in Minnesota, New Jersey and California with her first husband, and she later returned to raise her sons in Brooklyn Park, MN with her current husband, Dennis. Marlene worked for the Department of Public Safety for 35 years. She started her career in the mail room and later became the Director of Driver and Vehicle Services. Marlene was a pioneer in a man's world, and she paved the way for other women at a time when women leaders were virtually non-existent. Aside from being an accomplished business woman, Marlene was vital to her family, and enjoyed spending time with them. She has raised 4 generations. She was a full time wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending her days with her family, passing along wisdom and helping wherever she could. No matter the circumstances she was always doting and compassionate; being there for her family during trials and tribulations, and always to celebrate. Marlene was never a woman to conform to molds, and made her way in the world, and with a generous heart and caring spirit. She made sure to help others whenever possible through her philanthropy and also the love she bestowed upon others. She had a passion for life; always with a smile on her face and a dance in her step.  She also was an adventurer who loved to see the world with her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marlene's spirit lives on in the lives she touched.  Her love and compassion will be treasured by her family and be missed by all. Marlene was preceded in death by her Grandson, Anthony Raj Jr.; and her sister, Sandy Lloyd.  She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Dennis Swanson; her two sons, Elliot Raj and Anthony Raj; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 N. Arcade Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Funeral Service will be 3:00 P.M. on Monday, May 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 499 Wacouta Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota
