Floyd E. Erickson, age 91, of Maplewood, MN
Floyd Erickson passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025. He was born on May 8, 1934, to Eneas and Olga Erickson and grew up on a farm near Holt, MN, originally homesteaded by his Swedish immigrant grandparents. Floyd met Ellen Ramstad while attending Bemidji State University. They married in 1957 and began their teaching careers in Warroad, MN. After earning a master’s degree in industrial arts education from the University of North Dakota, Floyd and Ellen settled in Maplewood, MN, where they raised three children.
He dedicated 31 years to the Minnesota Department of Education, retiring as Assistant Director of School Facilities. He took great pride in his work and was known for making coffee and sparking conversation with colleagues. In retirement, he stayed active with home remodeling, gardening, and projects in his workshop. He was endlessly curious about the world, especially science, nature, and history. He kept his mind busy and his bookshelves full.
Floyd is survived by his children, Bruce (Shelby) Erickson, Beth (Kerry) Benjamin, and Lisanne Erickson; his grandchildren, Garrett (Lisa) Benjamin, Sarah (David) White, and Connie (Aaron) Sorenson; and great-grandchildren, Daisy, Jack, Harper, Owen, Huxley, Hazel. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ellen, and by his siblings Violet, Virgil, and Ione. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Maplewood. Floyd will be remembered for his lifelong love of learning, his easy conversation, and the steady, caring presence he brought to the lives of his family.
