William was born on October 2, 1943, weighing just 2 pounds, 14 ounces, at Samaritan Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, to John and Jewel (Robinson) Kelley. In the 1940s, a baby born that small was not expected to survive, but William proved from the very beginning that he was determined to stay. From his earliest days, he quietly defied the odds.
He spent his early years in St. Paul and Faribault, Minnesota. For the last several decades of his life, William was surrounded by a community of devoted caregivers and housemates who became his family in every way that mattered. They shared daily life, laughter, routines, and genuine care, and William was deeply loved and well cared for. This home and the people in it meant everything to him, and he meant everything to them.
Later in life, William was reunited with his biological siblings and other family members, and he cherished the relationships he built with them during his later years. These connections brought him great joy and a strong sense of belonging.
William was preceded in death by his parents John and Jewel, his brother, Paul Kelley, and his sister, Phyllis Kelley. He is survived by his siblings Theresa “Peaches” Stewart (Charles), Gene Kelley, Cecelia Kelley, and John Kelley Jr., all of Bentonville, Arkansas; Larry Kelly of St. Paul, Minnesota; Linda Kelley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Troy Kelley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
William will be remembered for his love of bowling and playing pool, his happy disposition, and his kindness. He lived a life shaped by perseverance, care, and quiet strength, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, at 2:30pm, followed by Service at 3:00pm at Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Arcade Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106.
