Obituary of Hannah Louise Barcus
Hannah Louise (Arneson) Barcus
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left to be with Jesus on November 8th, 2019. Hannah was married to John Barcus for sixty-one years. They had five children, Roger (Maurine), Bruce (Linda Jo), Daniel, Charles (Candi), and Kristina “Tulla” (Jeffrey) Priessler, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Hannah was born to Norwegian immigrants on September 9th,1922 in Elko, Minnesota. She learned English in school. She graduated from Northwestern Bible College in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Northfield to help start a church, which allowed her to meet her love, John Barcus. After WWII ended, they married and resided in Decatur, IL for 10 years then moved back to Minnesota in 1954.
Hannah operated the first licensed daycare in Ramsey County, then worked 20 years at United Hospitals in the O.T. Dept., then at Little Sisters of the Poor. She was an accomplished weaver and weaving instructor, winning nineteen blue ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair. Hannah also demonstrated Norwegian weaving with John at the Festival of Nations for 31 years.
Hannah was very spiritual and loved attending church. John and Hannah attended Apostolic Bible Church, and were charter members of the Saint Paul Apostolic Tabernacle. Of all her accomplishments, including being the best mother around, her greatest accomplishment was bringing souls to the Lord Jesus. She will be terribly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
