Denny was my mentor during my paramedic internship. He was tough! Consistent. Truthful. One of the first runs he told me to grab the bag while he assessed the scene of the accident. He ran back to me, eye to eye, said "go look in the car. Go over there. Puke fast. Shake it off. Then come back. I am going to need you if we are going to save anyone." So I did. And we did. Later, he again mentored me as we drove BMRA teams. Little falls, I drove back. I left a half full styrofoam cup of coffee on the bumper. I forgot it there. When we got back to the twin cities it was still there! He wasn't fond of my driving yet that night I got the Denny ok wink. Ahhh. I was in. Many more stories of this hero of mine. Grateful for every lesson.
Perhaps we could sit on his dustless garage floors & chat one day. Do very sorry to all.

Lisa, Shirley, Jeanne, Patrick (& family) - I am so saddened to hear of the passing of your father/husband. I have many memories of him but my favorite is the patience he had with me while I attempted water skiing - I failed miserably but he kept letting me try. To this day I've never tried water skiing again and every time someone asks me to try it, I politely decline and then tell them the story of my first and only attempt at it. Your dad/husband had such a presence about him - he was definitely someone you wouldn't easily forget. My childhood years residing in "the neighborhood" would not have been the same without him. Rest in peace, Mr. Cusick; rest in peace.

Denny was my captain on Engine/Medic 22 in the early 80s. I was a new guy and was very lucky to work with him at the start of my career. The man knew his stuff and was a good role model for a young fireman. Most importantly, he took care of his crew. He always made sure we were safe and well taken care of. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know him.
RIP Denny. You earned it.
