Obituary of James L. Gibb

James L. Gibb, 93, of Woodbury, MN passed away on March 12, 2021 at Walker Methodist Westwood Ridge. Jim was born November 11, 1927 in Windom, MN to Lafe and Nelle Gibb. He graduated from Austin High School in 1945. Jim won the pole-vaulting state tournament in 1945, and held the school record of 11'2" at Austin High School for about 30 years. Jim served in the US Navy from 1945-1948. Much of his service time was spent in Kodiak, Alaska. He was a machinist mate and radio announcer. He married Virginia “Ginny” McKusky on December 8, 1950. Jim worked for 3M for 32 years and holds four patents in his name. He was a lifelong member of Arlington United Methodist Church-Path of Grace, and sang in the church choir for most of those years. Jim also sang with the Metro Men Singers. Jim enjoyed golf, bike riding, track and field, skiing, sailing, visiting the North Shore and travel. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He looked forward each week to meeting with his Friday lunch group. Jim is survived by his wife, Ginny, of 70 years; his sons, James (Carol) of Menomonie, WI, and David (Dawn) of Mora, MN; his grandchildren, Amy, Shane, Kelly, Jacob, and Alicia; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean; and his son, Randy. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021 at Path of Grace Methodist Church, 759 County Road B East, Maplewood, with Visitation 1 hour prior. Private Interment at Elmhurst Cemetery in Maplewood. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association. **With regard to COVID concerns, the family is asking those people that have NOT been vaccinated to come at 11:00 a.m. just for the service.
