Jack was an under appreciated gem in our lives...a spirited, and young man till the end. He was on his own roof a couple of years ago, balancing on the mast of his sailboat, and mowed his own lawn until days before his death. His personality was just as youthful and fun loving.
He loved to tease. He liked to challenge peoples assumptions and stances. I will miss his emailed jokes. But luckily saved them.
One time we commented on how the squirrels had figured out how to get to his birdseed and his comment with a wave of his hand, "It's OK, the squirrels have to eat too". He loved all animals and loved people being an advocate and a voice for so many.
Our daughter, Sophie, and her dog, Pookie, moved here last winter and Pookie soon made a path in the snow to her favorite spot: Jack and Rose's. She would return with a large pita bread in her mouth and a smile.
His last words to us, "Come in for a Manhatten"
PS: The video at the funeral of Jack singing in the church was so touching. The whole service was beautiful. He would be proud of all of you.

Sheila and Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I had hoped to meet the amazing father that I had heard about during our walks in Uganda. Your stories of his challenges as an immigrant, his convictions, his wide-ranging interests, his charm, and most of all, his encouragement of his children made me realize what an incredible person he was. I hope that knowing he lived so well and touched so many lives will be a comfort to all of you. From what I saw of Sheila's important work in Uganda, her many interests and the lives that she touched there, I feel this is also part of Jack's legacy.

My heart sank when I heard of Jack's passing. Although we did not get to know Jack directly, he raised a smart, caring wonderful daughter who I had the honor of serving with in Uganda and stateside. I was happy that you got to spend some beautiful time together and have some lovely walks. There are never the right words to express feeling but Sheila and family you are in our hearts. Wishing heartfelt condolences to the family. Let us know if there is anything we can do to support you.
