Obituary of Fred Joseph Barilla

Born November 20, 1922 at 33 Phalen Creek in Swede Hollow. Navy Veteran of WWII who married his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Ann Knops of Glenwood City Wisconsin, in 1944 – a marriage that lasted for 73 years 9 months and 6 days. During WWII Fred was assigned “Procurement Duty" In Chicago and Minneapolis. Later sent overseas assigned to the “USS Luzon” he was in Saipan and Nagoya Japan at the end of the war. Upon his return he went back to the CB&Q railroad and worked as a Laborer, Oiler, and Carman retiring from the BN railroad as a Car Foreman in 1981. A long time member of Moose Lodge 963 and the North Maplewood Lions where he held the position of President from 1990 to 1991. Preceded in death by parents Dominic & Anna Mary Barilla, wife Elizabeth (Betty) Barilla, infant daughters Beverly Ann and Barbara Jean. Sisters Sue Sanchelli, Carmella Mancini, Jennie Mechtel, Palmina, Dora Dalto, Mary Ann Moore, brothers Anthony & Dominic. Fred was the proud & loving patriarch of 5 generations including children Fred (Jennine), Susan Dougherty (Rob), Greg (Judy) and Joe (Sandy); and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren. Also survived by Sisters Violet O’Gary, Josephine Falbo & many nephews & nieces. Special Thanks to Allina Hospice, especially Kathy and Shelly, whom Dad was always eager to see, & enjoyed their visits.
Services will be August 26th at St. Odilia Catholic Church. Visitation at 10AM, Mass at 11AM and luncheon in St Odilia courtyard following interment at St Odilia Prayer Garden.
