Obituary of Ellen Mae Erickson
Please share a memory of Ellen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ellen Mae Erickson (Ramstad) died on November 26, 2022, age 91, due to complications of pneumonia
at the Estates in Roseville, MN. Ellen was born September 6, 1931, in Bemidji, MN to parents Peter
Ramstad of Sunnfjord, Norway, and Emma Ramstad (Berg) of Valdres, Norway.
Ellen and her older brothers kept busy operating a small farm, and her father was a successful building
contractor in the area. Ellen received a teaching degree from Bemidji State College where she first met
Floyd, her future husband, at a dance. Ellen taught 2nd grade and Floyd was teaching industrial arts in
Warroad, MN when they were married in 1957. The family relocated to Maplewood in 1961, where
Ellen taught 4th grade at Harmony Elementary school until the 1970s.
Ellen was interested in gardening, music, animal husbandry, cooking, reading, sewing and many other
things. Her enthusiasm and encouragement led her children to many interests and hobbies also. There
were always projects underway at the Erickson house. She was very attentive to her flower and
vegetable garden, where home-grown produce was often a part of meals. She was interested in
genealogy and Ellen maintained contacts with her cousins in Norway. It was a big occasion for her to
visit Norway in 1980, travelling with the Sunnfjordlaget; an organization her father had been secretary
for, many years earlier.
Ellen is survived by her Husband Floyd, children Bruce (Shelby), Beth (Kerry) and Lisanne, Grandchildren
Garrett, Sarah, Connie, and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mildred and
Clara, and brothers Elroy, Clarence, Palmer, and Marvin.
Visitation will be held Monday December 5th At 10am, followed by Funeral service at 11am. Both services will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Saint Paul MN. The Burial will be at Monday December 5th 12pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park,
Maplewood, MN.
