Obituary of Ronald William Rice

Ronald Rice, beloved father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on March 2nd in Maplewood, Minnesota, at the age of 78. Born on April 30, 1945, to Thorne and Mabel Rice, Ron's life was one of service, dedication, and love for his family. Ron is survived by his sons, Christopher (Shawna), Daniel (Leah), Joseph, and David (Lexy Race), as well as his cherished grandchildren: Eva, James, Alice, Mila, and Aaden. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Jean, former brother-in-law, Lawrence Geisen, niece, Rochelle Umlauf, nephew Michael (Jill) Umlauf, and brother, Raymond. A proud veteran, Ron served his country in the Army from 1965 to 1967, including a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 where he earned a Purple Heart. After his military service, Ron pursued a career as a sprinkler fitter with the local 417 union. Ron’s greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured every moment spent with his sons and grandchildren. Ron will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts. A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life in honor of Ron at the Hugo American Legion on March 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.
