Obituary of Dr. Stan Kegler

Of Maplewood. Author, Educator, Genealogist, Linguist; University of Minnesota Professor and Vice President Emeritus. Born Dec. 24, 1927; enlisted in Army at 17; Ph.D. in linguistics and philology in 1958, from U. of M. Went on the path of souls on Nov. 4, 2015. Survived by loving wife and “bestest” friend, Dianne M. Del Giorno; daughters Emmy Kegler (Michelle Masselink), Nancy Quenomoen (Al), Christine Nichols (John); sons Gregory (Karla) and Scott (Michelle); grandchildren Nick (Kate) and Joe (Caryn) Bevins, Eric and David Mortensen, and Mary Menard; great-grandson James; sisters Monica Albers and Benilda Greshowak. Preceded in death by first wife Mary and four brothers. Academic distinctions: Alpha Sigma Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, and Phi Alpha Theta. Was author or co-author of over 100 books and articles and six genealogies. A member of the College English Association, the Linguistic Society of America, and its Onomastics Study Division. Dr. Kegler was a God-fearing Christian whose spiritual life was deepened by many health challenges in later years. Friends and family will remember Stan for his wit, his window on Oehrline’s Lake, his warm hospitality, and his fruitcake. Memorial service at 11:00 a.m, Fri., Nov. 13, St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2035 Charlton Road, Sunfish Lake, MN 55118. Visitation at 10:00. Private interment. Memorials preferred to St. Anne’s Episcopal Church (sanctuary renovation).
