Obituary of Mary Ann Long
Please share a memory of Mary Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Ann Kern Long (nee Marshall), age 87, passed away on April 8, 2017, in Burnsville, MN with her loving great niece Erikka Anderson at her side. She was born March 15, 1930, on St. Paul's East Side.
Preceded in death by husbands Harry Kern and Richard Long, parents Jack and Florence Marshall, sister Jeanne Broede, nephew Jack Meline, and many, many beloved pets. She is survived by her niece Marianne Johnson, great niece Erikka Anderson, and cousin Carol Johnson-Isaacson, and extended family.
Known to all in the family as Auka, she was one of a kind - tough, independent, feisty, and eccentric. She survived two husbands - a race car driver and an ad exec - and all of life's ups and downs. She was a proud graduate of Johnson High School, loved singing, genealogy, researching and celebrating her beloved Swedish heritage, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was dedicated to her family and her many, many dogs over the years. Never having any children of her own, her dogs became her children.
She will be remembered for her fiery personality, her own unique style of fashion and her endless crazy, fun hats!
Godspeed Auka. You will be missed.
Private interment at a later date.
