Obituary of Karl Arthur Dahlberg

Please share a memory of Karl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Karl Arthur Dahlberg April 28, 1937 - March 27, 2021 Born April 28, 1937 to Margaret Anna and Nels Arthur Dahlberg in Saint Paul, MN. He grew up in the family home on Hyacinth Avenue near Lake Phalen, where he ultimately returned and enjoyed the rest of his days. The pride and joy of his life was playing on the Johnson High School hockey team, alongside Herbie Brooks, and winning the state tournament in 1955. Karl was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rybin, who was a writer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He cared for her lovingly through illness until she passed in 2019. He is survived by four children from his first marriage to Darlene: Kenny (Gretchen), Debra (Howard), Jeffrey (Marlieke) and Todd (Jean); as well as five grandchildren, Tony (Brittani), Justin, Ginger, Willem and Sean; two great-grandchildren, Eilah and Vera; his two sisters, Nancy Nordland (Gary) and Peggie Schwarzwald (Kurt); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Karl tried his hand at a multitude of entrepreneurial pursuits over the years that many of us were involved with on some level. He was a long-time employee of 3M until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, he enjoyed a quiet life with Virginia. He was otherwise a rather solitary man. He read a lot. He lived through books, political commentary, news and the characters and lives within them. It is where he found comfort and a connection to the characters and relationships that he treasured. When with others, he enjoyed long conversations, sharing the wealth of knowledge that he had gained from his reading. Karl died peacefully at The Estates at Roseville. Though he wanted to die at home, toward the end of his life he needed care. The staff at The Estates and those from Brighton Hospice took beautiful care of him. Karl will be laid to rest next to Virginia at Sunset Memorial Park with his immediate family present. Please send condolences to Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Arcade Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106.
